This index was abstracted from about 24 books of courthouse records which were recorded on four reels of microfilm. The time frame is 1870 through 1929. The documents may include Declarations of Intent that have been filed in places other than Osage County, but presented here for naturalization petitions. Over time, legal documents were lost, replaced, changed format, etc. Therefore, what may seem to be a duplicate may not actually be.
When documents listed wives and children, these were added to the index, again sometimes causing duplication. In that event, only one copy would be paid for and sent to the patron. Occasionally, Interrogatories and/or Depositions were filed on behalf of the petitioners. The names of these witnesses are not included in this index.
Fees for this type of research include: $5.00 for the search; .25 for each copied page; postage is included. Please include the requested name, type of document and date, MF (microfilm) reel number, book and page with your request.
NOTE: As a courtesy, we have included surnames of Osage County residents who completed all or part of the legal process in Shawnee County, Kansas. We have only the index for those records, so information for those requests will be provided at no charge as the researcher will have to go to Shawnee County to obtain further information.
Send your request by email (osagechs@gmail.com); postal mail (OCHS, PO Box 361, Lyndon, KS 66451), phone 785-828-3477, leave message, or 785-220-3839 or 620-340-2347. When the records are found, we will advise as to the number of pages and the total cost. The patron will be asked to send a check or money order made payable to OCHS. When payment is received, the material will be sent by postal mail or e-mail per the patron’s request.
